"They love the songs and games. I think I would have enjoyed French if I had been taught in this way!"

Grandparent Havergall primary school, Wolverhampton.

"Our son enjoyed The French Club and has made a very positive start at Secondary School. I would encourage parents to take up this opportunity if it is available."

Mr Plant, Parent of Joshua,St. Gregory’s Primary School. Stratford on Avon. Warwickshire. 12.

"We, as a nation are rather lazy when it comes to speaking a foreign language, so it’s great that these youngsters are able to do so."

Parent. Hathern C.E. Primary School. Leicestershire.

"Sara struggles with French. She didn’t have the opportunity to do French at Primary school but a parent’s pressure group has persuaded The Governors to establish The French Club at the school so Joe should cope better when he moves up to Secondary."

Mrs Fisher, daughter of 13 & son of 9.

"I have nothing but praise for the after school French Club being run at my son’s school. My son is in year 4 at Seely Junior School. Out of the Study Support Fund issued to support after school activities, the Head Teacher, Mrs Webb, got in touch with some facilitators.

Not realising who might be interested, she sent letters to parents and was overwhelmed by some 80 children expressing an interest! Why oh why has it taken schools so long? “Je ne sais pas” (I don’t know!). English is the leading language around the world and we have been so laid back about earning other people’s languages, it’s an expectation in most countries to be bilingual, but not here.

I near scuffle with my son to get his Language Portfolio from his bag just to see what new words we’re learning this week. It’s a good refresher for the French I learned at secondary school, but that’s another point – why wait until secondary school? If children are introduced to languages at their infant stages it becomes a part of life , not a chore or an option in Year 9.

Well done Mrs Webb at Seely Juniors and well done to all other infant schools for teaching French. What we want next is languages written into the National Curriculum at infant/junior level – “s’il vous plait” (please!)."

Mrs Scott, Parent, Seely Junior School.

"Mrs Firth visits Ludford CE Primary School once a week for one hour. She teaches French to two age groups of children – infants and juniors in 30 minute sessions.

The children thoroughly enjoy their lessons. With learning activities, Mrs Firth gives clear instructions in a ‘fun’ way which are consolidated by playing games. She makes these games exciting and gives rewards both verbally and with stickers in an extremely positive way.

Mrs Firth approaches her work in a thoroughly professional manner. Her personality and teaching appeals greatly to all of the children and they are eager to attend and learn.

"My daughter Molly has been doing french club since reception. She loves it & as she has an older cousin who lives in france, she takes every opportunity she can when she sees him to tell him what she has learnt!

She is often singing the songs from the tapes too! I have to be honest, it has jogged my memory for the french language. Brilliant.."
